Easy Vegan BBQ Jackfruit Canape

Have you ever tried a Canapé? It is a type of hors d’ouevre which consists of a piece of bread or cracker topped with a savoury food. A canapé is meant to be eaten in one bite, which makes it a perfect appetizer for you and your guests. The reason you use young Jackfruit is because it is a great meat substitute, when it is still young, it is stringy and replicates the texture of pulled pork really well!

The cultured nut cheese imparts creaminess to the dish, and the Avocado Crisps from Hippie Snacks provide that perfect crunch. But don’t just take our word for it, try it yourselves! Find the recipe below.

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Drain and rinse jackfruit from the can and cook it in one cup of water covered for 15 minutes on medium heat until the jackfruit is nice and soft.
  3. Mash the jackfruit with a potato masher until it starts to look like pulled pork.
  4. Add salt and half a bottle of Good Food For Good BBQ sauce to the pulled jackfruit and mix well.
  5. Place the jackfruit on a greased baking sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, transfer to a bowl.
  6. Place Hippie Snack or cracker on a plate and top with jackfruit mix.
  7. Add cultured nut cheese and sliced avocado.
  8. Garnish with cilantro and a drizzle of some more Good Food for Good BBQ sauce. Enjoy!
