Nature’s Fare Markets Wins Sustainable Excellence Award

October 2017 - Community & Environment

Nature’s Fare Markets is honoured to have won the Sustainable Excellence Award by the Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce.

Our love for doing the right thing doesn’t stop with the products we source and share with you. We have been working hard in every aspect of our business to reduce our footprint on the world. We are committed to helping our ecosystems adjust to changing temperatures and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by agriculture. That’s why Nature’s Fare Markets has worked so hard to gain a reputation as a responsible and sustainable business and are extremely proud of our B Corporation certification. We were the first Canadian retailer to earn this distinction and it reflects our goal to be a better company.

Over the last five years we have worked hard on reducing our footprint on the world, lessons we have learned in the past are rolled out into our stores as we seek new ways to reduce our impact. We reduce garbage output by implementing composting systems in our stores. We have replaced many of the pieces of equipment and fixtures and light bulbs in our stores to optimize energy efficiency. Our coolers and freezers are Energy Star rated for optimal efficiency to lower our environmental impact as much as we can everyday. And if we print anything we use paper made using renewable energy and local materials, recycled content paper, and always environmentally friendly soy based inks and dyes.

We proudly partner with local farmers, not only does organic produce tastes better and provides greater health benefits, but organic farming is also better for our planet. We also gladly donated any leftover organic food waste from our produce departments and bistros to feed their animals.

We are a company that cares about our People, Products, and the Planet. Thank you so much for recognizing our efforts.
