I don’t know about you but I have been snacking like crazy lately! I don’t know if it’s the colder weather and the internal craving for comfort food or what? All I know is it’s becoming quite the habit.
As parents we always want to set a good example for our kids, including eating healthy. While we all have our secret indulgences; bag of M&M’s, Dorritos, Wine Gums (my personal fave) having “healthy” everyday snacks in the home is vital in setting a good example. With 5 boys in my home, chips are a huge staple for us. I can almost guarantee you that the minute a bag of chips enters my home, its packaging is already heading out the door the next day.
On my last visit to our local market I wanted to find some “guilt-free” options for all of us. That meant finding some options that would fulfill both the kids’ needs (great taste), and mine (healthy ingredients). After doing a little label research, and a little sampling, here are the top 3 NEW family household favourites that I have no problem buying for my family. I’m even okay with eating the whole bag – LOL)!
- Veggie Chips
- Peas please
- Kettle Uprooted
Why we love them?
Veggie Chips have always been a big hit in our home, and while there are numerous brands to choose from, my kids love these. This particular brand has no artificial colours or flavours or preservatives. The kids love them because they say “they taste like chips” due to the fact that they are fried and not baked. That’s the only down side.
Pease Please completely surprised me! I honestly didn’t think I was going to like these, never mind the kids. But, these great tasting baked organic crunchy pea snacks are now a huge hit in the home. Each bag contains 5g of protein and ½ cup of vegetables per serving. The white cheddar flavour is beyond addicting…and in case you are wondering – YES I ate the whole bag!
Finally, Kettle Uprooted! These chips come in two flavours: Sweet Potatoes & Sweet Potatoes, Beets & Parsnips. They are super crunchy, with great flavour and are made with only 3 ingredients: real sliced vegetables, oil and sea salt.
Snack food used to be synonymous with junk food but, with simple, healthy, tasty items like these there’s no reason to let your kids eat junk and there’s no excuse for not letting go of some of the junk you grew up with.
