Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of IT, the System Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance and design of the company’s application infrastructure and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for the enterprise storage and virtualization stack
  • Primary responsibility for managing/maintaining all Windows, print and Linux servers
  • Maintain Active Directory infrastructure, design GPO’s as needed and group permissions
  • Work with the Network Administrator to ensure DNS/DHCP services are optimized
  • Assist with deploying new PC’s, tills, wired and wireless device deployments
  • Interface with staff and provide informal training on best practices around web browsing and email security
  • Manage the backup and replication/DR infrastructure
  • Participate in primary end-user support, assisting the support analyst as a primary responder to helpdesk tickets
  • Develop and maintain accurate inventory tracking of all computer hardware and audit as required – this includes order and lifecycle management to ensure proper inventory control
  • Be willing to work an on-call rotation for evenings and weekends as needed and perform critical updates after hours
  • Some travel may be required to various store locations throughout B.C.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Technical Skills and Experience:

At least 4 – 5 years of experience in the following:

  • Windows 2012 R2 and newer
  • Windows System Update Services (WSUS)
  • Microsoft 365 (Azure, Office, Exchange)
  • Enterprise backup solutions (Veeam) and DR planning and execution
  • Networking skills: IP routing, DHCP/DNS, VPN
  • Security best practices (group policy, file system permissions structures)
  • Hyper-V 2012
  • System performance monitoring and remediation actions
  • Hardware diagnosis and repair
  • Working knowledge of advanced networking topics and next-gen firewalls considered an asset
  • Understanding of relational database concepts and applications considered an asset

Educational Requirements and Personal Characteristics:

  • Degree/diploma in computer systems and infrastructure/networking
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills plus the ability to recommend solutions
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to interact successfully with all levels of the organization
  • Work well with a team of peers and other technical professionals
  • Flexible, proactive approach and the ability to work under pressure, adjusting priorities and work schedules, as necessary, to meet project deadlines
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision

Work Environment:

The System Administrator’s position is based out of the Head Office of Nature’s Fare, in Vernon, BC. Travel will occasionally be required, as full support scope is required for all corporate retail stores.

This position requires participation in after-hours, on-call support for end users and requires the employee to be available at all times for emergency problem escalation.
