Insomnia
Insomnia is characterized by habitual sleeplessness. Failure to sleep through the night for more than one month may be considered chronic insomnia. Recognized as either the inability to fall asleep or falling asleep and then waking a few hours later only to stay awake, insomnia affects everyone differently.
Highly associated with stress, depression, anxiety and grief, 50% of insomnia seems psychological. Otherwise it is often associated with physical discomfort.
Symptoms May Include:
- Inability to fall asleep with ease
- Waking frequently in the night
- Waking 2—3 hours after falling asleep and then remaining awake
- Irritability
- Dozing off during conversation or in front of TV may also be a sign
