High Blood Pressure
Also known as “Hypertension”, HBP is described as an abnormally high amount of pressure of the blood pressing against the walls of the blood vessels. When blood pressure is high, the heart has to work harder to pump blood through the body. Blood pressure reading is a measure of systolic (heart beating) over diastolic (heart resting) pressure. Any reading that shows greater than 140/90 beats is considered high.
Symptoms May Include:
Usually causes not noticeable symptoms, but warning signs include:
- Headaches
- Sweating
- Rapid pulse
- Shortness of breath
- Visual disturbances & dizziness
Risk factors include smoking, stress, obesity, substance abuse, high sodium intake or underlying disease.
