As seen on Dr. Oz, with John Gray….PGX; it will change your life even if you don’t!

DrOzPGX

PGX (PolyGlycopleX) is a non-starch polysaccharide (fiber) from glucomannan that has a very high water-absorbing capacity. When used with meals, PGX absorbs significant amounts of water, increasing the volume of the food you eat, quickly making you feel full, even when your food portions are smaller. Therefore, it is important to drink plenty of water when using PGX.

This prolongs the after-meal sense of fullness helps normalize blood sugar levels and insulin secretion. By leveling out your sugar absorption, you can eliminate the “blood sugar roller coaster” – when food intake causes excess insulin to be secreted, later causing you to feel hungry due to blood sugar dropping, which then causes you to consume more food, which then causes more insulin secretion, etc. These ups and downs in blood sugar are hard on your body and make it very difficult to lose weight. PGX also increases food viscosity (its gel-like quality), which slows the rate that food is digested and absorbed.

Glucomannan/PGX  offers benefits for those seeking to lose weight. Studies show that supplementing with glucomannan enhances the weight-loss effects of a calorie-restricted diet. It may promote weight loss in obese adults, even in the absence of a calorie-restricted diet. When obese adults consumed glucomannan fiber/ 3 PGX capsules one hour before each meal for eight weeks, they lost an average of 5.5 pounds of body weight—with no other changes to their eating or exercise patterns.

Ongoing research and development involving PGX has led to the development of the PGX Daily Ultra Matrix soft gel – an advanced delivery system for superior results. The Ultra Matrix technology involves suspending PGX in an MCT-rich oil matrix (medium-chain triglycerides) derived from purified coconut oil. This matrix, when combined with stomach acid, disperses better than any other tested delivery system for soluble or insoluble fiber, including previous forms of PGX. Rapid dispersal substantially increases the potential of PGX Daily as the polysaccharides quickly attract water and thicken quickly providing a profound sense of fullness. This effect is referred to as “acid-induced viscosity” and it begins within minutes of ingesting PGX Daily. For more information visit pgx.com

Is it safe for a 23 year old female to take this to help with weight loss or to maintain weight?

This is one of the safest products for weight and blood sugar management since it is simply a food derived product. It is also safe to stay on for long periods of time since it also helps with cholesterol and increasing your intake of daily fiber.

    Thank you for your question!

Hello Brian, yes you can take PGX with metformin. As far as replacing it, you would have to talk about that with your doctor and wait to see how well diet and the addition of PGX helps with your sugar levels.
Thanks so much for the question.

    Hello,
It is not recommended for those with digestive surgery. Here is the response from PGX.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding PGX; we appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

Anyone with a pre-existing medical history needs to seek advice from their health care practitioner prior to taking PGX.

    Who should not take PGX;
    • Anyone who cannot compensate for a large water intake, such as someone with renal disease or congestive heart failure.
    • Anyone who is taking a large number of medications that must be taken with food and/or without food, unless advised by their health care practitioner.
    • Anyone who has difficulty swallowing, including people with gastrointestinal disorders, and those with esophageal stenosis, or pre-existing bowel abnormalities such as GI strictures or impaired mobility, as they may be at risk for esophageal or intestinal blockages or obstruction. Such people should consult their health care practitioner before use
    • Pregnant or lactating women should discuss PGX use with their health care practitioner.
    • Anyone under 18 years of age should discuss PGX use with their health care practitioner.
    • If you have any concerns, consult your health care practitioner.
    — NOTE —
    • Consult a qualified health care practitioner before making any change in your diet or medications.
    • Since PGX slows the rate of food absorption, it may do the same with medications. Oral medications should be taken one hour before using PGX or two to three hours afterward.
    • People with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar levels regularly when using PGX. It may lead to a reduced need for diabetes medications.
    • Do not take PGX immediately before bed to ensure proper digestion.
    • If you experience chest pain, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or vomiting after taking this product, seek immediate medical attention.
PGX is the result of many years of intensive clinical and laboratory research with universities from around the world and specialized research organizations in collaboration with the Canadian Center for Functional Medicine. After years of research involving thousands of participants it is clear that adding PGX to meals can: balance blood sugar, reduce the glycemic index of foods, restore insulin sensitivity (a key factor in weight control), curb food cravings and lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels. If you are on medication for any of these, regular medical checkups are necessary.

PGX® has been evaluated using internationally recognized protocols and found to be remarkably safe. Studies conducted in the United States, France, and Germany all proved that PGX is safe to use.
PGX® has been clinically shown to have beneficial effects in the following areas:
    • Weight Management
    • Cholesterol Lowering
    • Blood Sugar Levels and Glycemic Index
    • Satiety Hormones
PGX is a highly concentrated and highly effective form of fibre. It can take time for your body to adjust. To avoid minor side effects, such as increased gas, bloating, loose stools or constipation, it is best to start with small amounts of PGX and then gradually increase your intake as your body adjusts. If you take PGX consistently, and increase the dose gradually, it is likely that you will be able to consume a highly effective dose, without these effects, within a few days to a week. To decrease any possible side effects, it is important to drink a large glass of water with each dose of PGX.

PGX can slow the rate of absorption of foods and therefore it can theoretically do the same with medications. It is recommended that any oral medications be taken 1 hour before PGX and/or 2 to 3 hours after consuming PGX products.
If a person needs to take their medication in the morning with breakfast, they can take PGX at with a mid-morning snack, lunch and dinner time. If a person is taking an array of medications, it is recommended to consult with their physician prior to taking PGX.

For medication concerning blood sugar, cholesterol or blood pressure, it is important to consult your practitioner periodically as your medications could require adjustment.
    To enjoy the full benefits of PGX;
    • Take PGX before each meal (3 times daily). 2 hours away from your medications. 20 minutes for softgels and 45 minutes prior to meals for granules is ideal.
    • Be sure to drink 250 ml (8 oz) of water per 2.5 gram serving of PGX (2 or 3 softgels). Sometimes if too much water is consumed PGX will be flushed out of the body and may not benefit the body to its full potential. If too little water is taken, constipation may occur.
    • Start with 1 softgel of PGX Daily before each meal and increase by 1 softgel per meal every 2 to 3 days. If you are prone to digestive upset, increase the dose at a slower rate to give your body time to adjust. Some people find 2-3 softgels or 2.5 grams of PGX granules to be effective. Others require the maximum dose of 6 softgels of PGX Daily or 5 grams of PGX granules (per meal) in order to reduce portion size.
    • Continue to increase the dosage until you experience a significant reduction in hunger and between-meal food cravings. Do not exceed 6 softgels or 5 grams up to three times per day. PGX is easy to use as a healthy supplement at home, on vacation, in a restaurant, or at a friend’s for dinner.
